Knowledge

I have come to the realization that knowledge can be a double edged sword. It is a good thing to be learned or knowledgeable, but if you get carried away it can backfire. This dawned on me today as I was reflecting back upon this last semester of school. I look at my geology teacher and see a man full of knowledge. Then I see his cautious side. Because of his knowledge he is cautious about where he is and what he does. Then I looked at myself and saw a similarity. Through my massage schooling I have learned how to take care of the physical and energetical bodies. I see that because of what I know that there are certain things that I do not do, but mostly that I try to help others. Some times we allow our knowledge or belief of knowledge to get in the way of our daily lives. In reference to climbing. I took a geology class this semester. I was contacted by a couple friends about a few new possible climbing areas. The first thing I think is "sweet! a new spot!" Then I wonder what the geology of the area is. I climb cracks and while on-route think of the process is of how that crack got there. Then the questions and fears seep in. Will this slab suddenly sluff off because of my weight upon it? Will this block suddenly give way as I am hanging underneath it? These events are real and happen. So sometimes I see knowledge as power, then again I see it as a hinderance.
